The International Conducting Masterclass aims to provide an ideal learning environment for aspiring students and professional orchestral conductors. Over four days the participants will be given expert tutoring in orchestral conducting, score reading and music interpretation.
The program of the masterclass is constructed to lay a base and to build specific patterns and trends of learning in the field of orchestral conducting.
Béla Bartók: Romanian Folk Dances
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Op. 21
Benjamin Britten: Simple Symphony, Op. 4 (strings)
Franz Schubert: Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, D. 485
Edvard Grieg: ”Holberg” Suite, Op. 40 (strings)
Richard Wagner: „Siegfried Idyll”
Each participant will have minimum 120 minutes podium time in rehearsals with the orchestra, depending on the number of active participants in the Masterclass;
All rehearsals with the orchestra will be video recorded.
8 active participants will be accepted for the masterclass course.
No age limit.
Dates and structure of the Masterclass:
The sessions with the orchestra will take place in the „Oltenia” Philharmonic concert hall, beginning with Tuesday, 6th of June until Thursday, 8th of June, 2017.

Private sessions, without orchestra, with Dr. Ivan Iliev: Friday, 9th of June 2017, 14:00 - 17:00.
The spoken language for the masterclass will be English.
A Matinee Concert with the participants will be held on Saturday, 10th of June, 2017, 11:00, with the “Oltenia” Philharmonic Orchestra. Each participant will conduct a movement (movements) or excerpts from the masterclass repertoire.
On the occasion of the Matinee Concert, the participants-conductors will receive Diploma of Participation in the International Conducting Masterclass - Craiova, 2017.
Active participants fees: 950 Euro
Semi-active participants fees: 400 Euro
Application fees: 25 Euro (non-refundable)
